Storm Water Management
Storm water is an abnormal amount of rain water on the ground due to heavy rain or a snowstorm. Storm water that doesn't soak into the ground is runoff and it originates from impermeable surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, roads, and rooftops or ground that is impervious due over or under saturation. Storm water is important because it often contains pollutants in quantities that could adversely affect water quality.
Storm Water Fees
All property owners in Munroe Falls are charged a flat fee of $3.00/mo, per parcel. This fee is included on the water bill and helps to offset the cost of storm water infrastructure programs and the implementation of state and federally mandated storm water programs.
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit
Most storm water discharges are considered point sources and require coverage by a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. The primary method to control storm water discharges is through the use of best management practices (BMPs).
Summit County Storm Water Initiative
The 2021 Summit County NPDES Storm Water Permit theme is: Runoff Reduction - "Stormwater - Slow It Down, Spread It Out, Soak It In". This initiative promotes watershed awareness and protection strategies throughout the Lake Erie Basin, aimed at increasing the public's knowledge of the impacts of non-point source pollution.
