We're looking for a few good Firefighters

Here is your chance to become involved in the community, develop new friendships and enter into an exciting part-time career.  The City of Munroe Falls Fire Department has periodic openings for the position of part-time paid-on-call firefighter or firefighter/EMT.

 Becoming a member...  

Several steps are required for all candidates to become a member of the Munroe Falls Fire Department including eligibility requirements as follows:

  • You must be 18 years of age
  • You must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • You must not have a felony conviction
  • You must possess a valid Ohio driver's license with a good driving record
  • You must live within approximately 2 - 2.5 miles of one of the departments fire stations

Further candidate screening will be used to evaluate abilities as they relate to firefighter and/or emergency medical performance.  Candidates will be asked to:

  • Complete a City of Munroe Falls employment application
  • Complete a Munroe Falls Fire Department application packet
  • Undergo a background and/or records check
  • Take a drug test and physical examination by a physician at the expense of the Munroe Falls Fire Department  

Candidates who successfully meet all of the requirements of the screening process may be interviewed by department members.  The final step in the hiring process is approval by the Mayor of the City of Munroe Falls from the Fire Chief's recommendations.  After appointment to the department, the firefighter must successfully complete a State of Ohio approved firefighter I training course within six months. In addition to the firefighter I course, hazardous materials training and department pre-emergency response training is required within the six month period.  Candidates appointed to the departments EMS Division must also complete required training as directed by the departments Medical Director and Fire Chief.  Candidates will have a 12 month probationary period. 

Candidates available for response during weekdays are particularly needed.

Active Status

To maintain employment with the department, the following requirements must be achieved by all department members on a yearly basis.

  • Respond to at least 30% of alarms assigned to their shift.
  • Maintain all required State of Ohio and department certifications.
  • Attend a minimum of 36 hours of fire trainings and drills.
  • An additional 20 to 28 hours for EMS Division, based on level of certification.
  • Complete all mandatory department training programs.
  • Attend a minimum of 5 to 10 hours of department activities other than incidents and training. Public education, department community activities, open houses, parades, equipment and vehicle maintenance are some examples.

Compensation

Members will be compensated for work performed according to the following:

  • Fire and EMS incidents, emergencies and departmental sponsored training and activities are paid at a rate of approximately $10.30 to $11.95 per hour. 
  • Scheduled station staffing rates are $12.24 to $14.28 per hour, with double time on City Holidays.
  • Members are provided with personal protective equipment and an annual clothing allowance for uniforms.
